Founded in 1819, the » Erste Group was originally named "Erste österreichische Spar-Casse".

In 1997 Erste Bank went public, while expanding their Retail Banking to Central and Eastern Europe. Since then more than 10 banks have been acquired and the number of customers has increased to 17.5 Million.

More than 50,000 employees work in nearly 3,000 subsidiaries in different countries including Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Czech Republic, Romania, Croatia and Ukraine.

Thanks to their increasing number of customers and total assets, as well as their strategic direction on Retail Banking as well as small and medium-sized businesses, Erste Bank Group has risen to be one of the largest financial service providers in Central and Eastern Europe.

In 2009 Gentics was chosen to implement Enterprise 2.0 embossed intranet in cooperation with s IT Solutions, Erste Groups own IT service provider. This resulted in an Enterprise 2.0 intranet for more than 50,000 employees including a blog for managing communications and Wiki for project documentation.
